Job Description
The learning support teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. The learning support teacher follows the accommodations and modifications written in the learning plan for each student and helps maintain progress monitoring data in accordance with individual student goals.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The secondary mathematics learning support teacher shall:
  • Provide research-based specialized mathematics intervention instruction to address the instructional gaps in learning based on benchmark assessments and written goals contained within each student’s learning plan in small groups or one-on-one.
  • Assess student learning through progress monitoring data and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their learning plan goals.
  • Create a positive learning experience with emphasis on individualized instruction using appropriate technology and curriculum resources.
  • Establish and maintain instructional control in the classroom.
  • Employ and implement a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, behavior modification plans, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Co-teach in general education classrooms to provide additional support to diverse learners, as needed.
  • Under the direction of and in collaboration with the curriculum coordinator, develop and implement intervention plans and learning plans for students.
  • Participate in intervention plan and learning plan meetings for secondary students receiving mathematics support services.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Special Education is required
  • Master's degree is preferred
  • Pennsylvania and/or ACSI certification is helpful
Experience
Previous experience working with students with disabilities is helpful, but not required.
