Tom Hilterman
Tom Hilterman began his flying career by learning to fly at age 16 in a Piper J-3 Cub. Later,Tom was enlisted in the U.S. Army for 4 years as a certified FAA Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic. He used the G.I. Bill to get all commercial flight ratings including Flight Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot rating.
Tom worked 20 years for AMP, Incorporated, flying business jets around the world. For 10 of those years, he was Chief Pilot, supervising 18 pilots. At the same time he owned and operated a Flight School for 5 years at the Carlisle Airport. At age 44, he decided to go fly for the airlines. Tom was hired by American Airlines, where he has been for 15 years as a
First Officer. He flew the MD-80 to most major cities in the U.S. for 8 years. After that, he flew the Boeing 737 for 3 years, mostly to the Caribbean Islands, the Boeing 757 and 767 to most major cities in Europe for 2 years and then most recently, the Boeing 777, where he flies only to 4 cities, London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, and Buenos Aires. Tom is currently based at JFK airport in New York and has flown a total of 24,000 flying hours.
Tom has been married for 39 years to Denise. He has four kids, Hans, Tim, Christine, and Jen who all have a pilot's license. His oldest boy was an Air Force fighter pilot -- F-15E (45 combat missions in Iraq & Afghanistan). Tom has seven grandchildren.
