Description
Part Two of Annual Lecture Series 2018: Keep the Wheels Turning. Presented by Bill?Calimer, Wheelwright, Calimer’s Wheel Shop, Waynesboro, Pa.
After a career in cancer research at Hershey Medical Center, Bill Calimer returned to Waynesboro and took over his father’s wheel and carriage shop in 1980. His father and grandfather were blacksmiths and wheelwrights, and Calimer had been around wheel-making all his life. Calimer’s Wheel Shop specializes in replacement wooden wheels for antique automobiles. These wheels require great precision and an expertise developed through experience. Calimer will share stories of his unique trade, including the hundreds of spoke patterns and the specific type of wood that is best for reproducing automobile wheels. He will discuss the process of creating by hand accurate, durable and strong wheels for vintage cars, ranging from the once-ubiquitous Model T Ford, to Stanley Steamers and even early Mercedes models. Free. For more information, visit www.renfrewinstitute.org, call 717-762-0373 or email to info@renfrewinstitute.org.
