William (Bill) Rolar, Penn State Mont Alto Instructor in music, will present “500 years: The Reformation and Martin Luther (Oct. 31, 1517 to 2017)?A Monumental Event.” Rolar’s presentation will demonstrate how Martin Luther’s criticism of the Catholic Church 500 years ago, when he nailed his “Ninety-five Theses” to the door of a castle in Wittenberg, Germany, literally changed the world and its history, civilization, theology, music, art, science and culture. His presentation will include videos of the preparation for the 500-year anniversary in Wittenberg, famous hymns that Luther composed, musical examples from two major composers profoundly influenced by Martin Luther (1483-1546), and a brief outline with musical examples.
